Collection results
In the long term, ASEKOL belongs amongst those collective schemes which enable the Czech Republic to fulfil its commitments towards the European Union in terms of the collection of electrical and electronic equipment (the applicable EU Directive requires that the Czech Republic collect at least 42,000 tonnes of EEE every year). ASEKOL collected 17,186 tonnes in 2009 and thus made a 40 % contribution to the fulfilment of this commitment; without ASEKOL, the commitment would not have been fulfilled.
In terms of collection results, the year 2009 was again characterized by a sharp growth in ASEKOL performance. In year-by-year comparison, the weight of collected discarded EEE increased by 33 %.
The greatest share in collection was again provided by TV sets and komputer monitors. 650,000 items were collected in 2009, which corresponds to 13,460 tonnes. An increase in the collection of minor electrical appliances is a positive development. This commodity is very difficult to collect and its increased collection indicates better public awareness of environmental management of discarded appliances. In 2009 ASEKOL recorded 3,726 tonnes of collected minor appliances, which corresponds to a 57% increase in the weight of collected minor electrical appliances compared to 2008.EEE with a monitor - TV sets and PC monitors – provide the highest share in collection (82%).
Development of collection of taken-back EEE in the individual regions depending on the number of inhabitants
Each inhabitant of Czech republic handed over, on average, 1,637 kg in 2009.
The highest share in the increase in taken-back EEE was provided by the inhabitants of the Zlín region, where each citizen handed over 2,26 kg of old appliances to Asekol in 2009.

Treatment
The Waste Act stipulates minimum levels of recovery, reuse and material recovery for the individual categories of EEE which are binding from January 1, 2009
Thanks to systematic co-operation with business partners Asekol already complied with these strict legislation limits for recovery and material recovery in the past years.
