Basic terms
Producer
any natural or legal person authorized to operate a business who, irrespective of the selling technique used, including by means of distance communication,
a) manufactures and sells electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) under his own brand, or
b) resells under his own brand electrical and electronic equipment produced by other suppliers, unless the brand of the person pursuant to point 1 appears on the equipment, or
c) imports electrical and electronic equipment to the Czech Republic or places such electrical and electronic equipment on the market in the Czech Republic within his business activities
“professional” EEE
equipment that is not intended for use in households; professional series (designated by the producer)
EEE other than from private households = waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)
electrical and electronic equipment which has become waste, including all components, subassemblies and consumables that are part of the product at the time of discarding; the generator of WEEE is always a legal person or a natural person authorized to operate a business
EEE from private households
used EEE which comes from private households or waste electrical and electronic equipment of a similar character and amount which comes from legal persons and natural persons authorized to operate a business
separate collection of WEEE
withdrawal of used electrical and electronic equipment which does not come from private households from end users at a point designated for this purpose by the producer
Who can become a site for separate collection?
Only an entity having the relevant permits and consents and performing the set duties may act as a site for separate collection: consent of the regional authority (in accordance with Section 14 of Act No. 185/2001 Coll.) to collection, gathering and purchase of waste of catalogue number 1602; classification of WEEE pursuant to Section 6 of Act No. 185/2001 Coll., on wastes; keeping records of WEEE in accordance with Section 16 (1) (g) of Act No. 185/2001 Coll., on wastes, as amended, and MoE Decree No. 383/2001 Coll.; and provision of statements from these records in accordance with the above-mentioned legal regulations.
Important provisions of the Waste Act, No. 185/2001 Coll.
For WEEE that does not come from private households, the producer of EEE shall provide for separate collection thereof.
Producers of EEE shall label EEE with a graphic symbol for the purposes of separate collection of WEEE:

Through the distributors, the producer shall ensure that the end users are informed of the manner of separate collection. Upon sale of EEE, the distributor shall inform the end users of the manner of separate collection. WEEE from points of separate collection may be submitted solely to a treatment operator.
