18. 07. 2012 Czechs buy more televisions because of the EURO and the Olympics
The upcoming Olympics and the recently completed European Football Championship increased TV sales by 30%, according to data provided by the NGO ASEKOL.
"The number of televisions sold annually increases mainly in the fourth quarter of every year, mainly due to Christmas holidays. Other significant increases are registered at the time of the Olympics and football championships, which means every two years, "says Hana Ansorgová, Communications Manager of ASEKOL.
The Electronics Manufacturers associated in the collective system ASEKOL registered in June this year more than 80 000 sold televisions, which is significantly higher than 52 000 televisions sold in June 2011.
The trend is also confirmed by Martin Matlocha from the Customer department Electroworld: "Major sports events which are not held every year increase our sales by 30 to 50%. But even during the frequent tournaments, such as the Ice Hockey World Championship, the sales increase by 10%. We usualy prepare for these periods in advance. Specifically, thanks to the European Championship in football and the Olympics we are registering an increase of 33% in TV sales."
