The Mobilcup project is one of ASEKOL’s newest public-awareness projects. It began in May 2014 and concluded in September with a five-a-side football tournament, in the finals of which participated teams of amateur footballers which had collected the largest number of old mobile telephones. The teams competed for a trip to the Champions League, and the best could pit their skills against a team of such stars as Jakub Kohák, Zdeněk Grygera and Marek Jankulovski. The tournament was also followed by a Concert for a Mobile, which in addition to tournament participants was open to anyone who handed in an old mobile to receive a ticket. In the end, 12,000 mobiles were collected and the participants heard the bands Wanastowi Vjecy, PORTLESS and Viktor Dyk & WAW.
The tournament winners won a trip to the Champions League while other participants were rewarded with Puma shirts and footballs, supplies of Gambrinus beer or new Samsung mobile phones. An important climax to the project was the presentation of a cheque for CZK 500,000 to the Zelený život (“Green Life”) foundation, which occurred during an evening concert. The cheque was presented by representatives of ASEKOL and of the general partner Samsung Electronics Czech and Slovak, s.r.o.
The first 10 teams collected and handed in more than 5,000 end-of-life mobiles.
