Control of the quality of treatment
A decisive factor in the provision for the take-back duty lies in the quality of treatment. Therefore, with respect to all treatment operators, ASEKOL thoroughly checks the level of treatment and completeness of the records.
ASEKOL ensures the environmental quality of treatment by the treatment operators in the following ways:
- issuing a binding guideline for treatment operators (it describes how the treatment operators are to proceed in treatment)
- regular audits of treatment operators (at least once annually at each treatment operator), which are performed, for ASEKOL, by the international auditing company, DNV (Den Norske Veritas)
- a contract stipulating contractual penalties
- introducing the ISO 9001, ISO 14 001 and ISO 18 001 systems
The records are kept and control is performed particularly on the basis of bar codes that are used at the collection sites to mark the individual items of large EEE (TV sets and computer monitors). Bar codes are also attached to the collection means for minor EEE. The bar codes are read during the process of transport and treatment. Records are thus kept of the movement of EEE within the entire take-back chain. In addition, the treatment operators keep monthly records of treated materials and regular waste records.
ASEKOL verifies the fulfillment of the obligations of the treatment operators, not only through its own inspectors, but particularly by means of audits performed by renowned audit companies.
